Curriculum
Here is what we will be focusing on in class this month.
Most of what we will spend our time on in the first few weeks is building a safe, welcoming classroom environment. This includes getting to know our classmates, practicing classroom routines over, and over, and over again, and creating our set of classroom rules that we will do our best to live by over the upcoming year. In addition, we will work on the following curriculum:
Fundations -- Review short vowel sounds, diagraphs and blends, closed syllables; introduction to cursive writing
Writing -- Introduction to writer's workshop; learning to write in paragraph format; introduction to Circle Journal writing; introduction to realistic fiction writing
Reading -- Introduction to reader's workshop; choosing a Just Right Book; beginning to "buzz" and write about our reading; introduction of our shared text "Amber Brown is Not a Crayon"
Math -- Pre-assessment; number lines and rounding; telling time on an analog clock; scaled bar graphs; basic multiplication strategies
Social Studies -- Introduction to the New England States, Mapping and the Wampanoags
